Maria Koskolou is Associate Professor of Exercise Physiology at the School of Physical Education and Sports Science, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece (NKUA). She has studied in Greece (Bachelor’s: NKUA, 1985) and abroad (Master's: University of British Columbia, Canada, 1991, PhD: University of Copenhagen-August Krogh Institute, Denmark, 1998). She teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the field of Exercise Physiology at NKUA, as well as in postgraduate programs of other Greek and foreign Universities. She has been director of the Section of Sports Medicine and Biology of Exercise, as well as director of the postgraduate program “Biology of Physical Activity”. Her research interests are in various aspects of Exercise Physiology related to health and performance and particularly to cardiorespiratory responses to exercise (especially under conditions of oxygen deprivation and other types of environmental stress) in various populations. She has published and is a reviewer in prestigious international scientific journals. She has organized Greek and international conferences and for many years has been a member of international scientific societies (American Physiological Society, European College of Sports Science, International Society of Environmental Ergonomics).
